The LMIA: seemingly the bane of every immigration lawyer’s existence. There is no doubt that in the realm of immigration law it is unlike any other application. Officers routinely ignore designated representatives and communicate directly with clients, the manuals they rely on are not readily......
Hello and welcome. I am Aleksandar Jeremić, founder and principal of Anchor Law. I am a Barrister and Solicitor based in Toronto, Canada, and Anchor Law is the embodiment of my immigration and refugee law practice.
The Balkan wars of the 1990s led my family and me to immigrate to Canada. This experience inspired an interest in international affairs and politics early in my life. That led me to pursue undergraduate and graduate studies in Political Science at the University of Toronto. Following a few years working in the publishing and media industry, my intellectual curiosity led me to law school at the University of Ottawa. I quickly realized that immigration and refugee law appealed to me. It presented the perfect opportunity to combine my interest in politics and global issues with my desire to be an advocate and work with the public.
This interest led me to work for an Ottawa-based immigration lawyer during the summer after my second year of law school, and throughout my third year. After I graduated I returned to Toronto and articled at a boutique insurance defence firm. While working in a different area of the law taught me valuable new skills and allowed me to gain advocacy experience in appearances before the Ontario Superior Court, it also reinforced my belief that immigration and refugee law is my true calling.
The next logical step was to found Anchor Law.
