Aleksandar Jeremić
Aleksandar Jeremić is the founder and principal at Anchor Law. He is a Barrister and Solicitor based in Toronto, Canada, and Anchor Law is the embodiment of his immigration and refugee law practice. But more than that, he is an immigrant himself who moved to Canada with his parents as a result of the wars that ravaged the Balkans in the 1990s.
This experience sparked an interest in international affairs and politics early in his life and Aleksandar pursued an undergraduate and graduate degree in Political Science at the University of Toronto.
His intellectual curiosity then led him to the law program at the University of Ottawa, where he realized that immigration and refugee law appealed to him. It perfectly combines his interest in politics and global issues with his desire to be an advocate and work with the public.
During law school he worked at an Ottawa-based immigration law office, and then articled at a boutique insurance defence firm. Although working in a different area of the law taught him valuable new skills and allowed him to gain advocacy experience in appearances before the Ontario Superior Court, it also reinforced his belief that immigration and refugee law is his true calling.
The next logical step was to start Anchor Law and infuse his practice with the experience and empathy born out of his work and own life experience.

Joel Covelli
Joel is a lawyer operating his own independent practice in association with Anchor Law. This means Joel manages his clients independently of Anchor Law/Aleksandar Jeremic, and manages his own trust account, but works out of the same location and shares other operational resources with Anchor Law.
Driven by a commitment to helping individuals build new lives in Canada, Joel expertly guides clients through the complexities of the immigration system. Joel is dedicated to providing compassionate and effective legal guidance through the immigration process.
Joel’s commitment to issues of justice and human rights developed during his undergraduate studies at Amherst College, where he focused on the challenges surrounding democratic governance, the rule of law, and citizen security in the developing world. This foundational interest led him to pursue a Juris Doctor at the University of Ottawa and a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). His legal studies included a valuable two-semester exchange at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
Joel speaks Spanish and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Refugee Lawyers Association of Ontario (RLA), and the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL).

Lorin Yurekkirmaz
Lorin is an Associate Lawyer at Anchor Law, practicing exclusively in immigration and refugee law. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Society, with a Certificate in Public Administration and Law from York University, graduating cum laude. Lorin went on to complete a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of Birmingham, and later obtained a Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) and the Federation of Law Societies of Canada (FLSC).
Lorin’s journey with Anchor Law began as a law student and continued through articling. Lorin was called to the Ontario Bar in June 2025 and has since continued a legal career with the firm, offering dedicated and culturally informed advocacy to individuals navigating complex immigration and refugee matters.
Born in Canada to immigrant parents, Lorin’s personal connection to the immigrant experience is what inspired a deep commitment to this field. This lived understanding fuels Lorin’s passion for advocating for the rights of immigrants and refugees, particularly those facing systemic barriers and displacement.
Lorin is fluent in Turkish and has working comprehension of Kurdish, enabling her to support a diverse range of clients with empathy and clarity. She is also a member of the Law Society of Ontario.
